THE MESSIANIC PILGRIMAGE

Who am I? Sounds like a simple enough question and easy to answer on a day-to-day basis but who am I in eternal terms? As a young man I thought very little about this. I had answers but they were simple answers that don’t really satisfy now. Growing older I think about this more and more.
A year ago a close friend of mine from Egypt suddenly died. He was younger than I am and it was a big shock to me. I miss him a lot.

He produced a lot of TV programmes in Egypt. 30 years ago directed a movie called Lost and Found.  The movie was about two sons, both of whom were in one way or another lost to their father. One of them demanded his inheritance before his father died. He then went off and wasted it all in a foreign land. This dishonoured his father and was a disgrace to his village. The other son was biding his time waiting for his father’s death for his inheritance. He was self-righteous and distant from his father’s love. He liked to show off to those in the village.

The movie is an allegory of different relationships to God. What is our real identity when we think of God? Are we the son who does what he likes and squanders everything he was given? Are we the son waiting for something in the future but unable to enjoy intimate love with God?

The producers of Lost and Found are creating a new version of the movie in better quality. I am told it should be out within 2-3 months. It’s a shocking movie.
