All power belongs to God

It has become clear throughout history and the succession of countries and eras that the human power that we often boast and are conceited with, such as the powers of the human body and mind, military powers, industrial powers, urbanization, and other manifestations of power, are nothing but dazzling lightning, structures that are quick to collapse and disappear, just as a person disappears. Overnight, his grave will be hidden after a long period of glory and glory. We do not need to give any examples of this here. It is enough what the pens of historians have written about the rise and fall of states, the rise and collapse of city walls, and the succession of dynasties one over the ruins of the other. As sufficient proof of this is what we see today of the ability of a very small virus that cannot be seen with the naked eye to stun the world’s most powerful systems and threaten them with extinction and extinction. We see how the entire world declared an unprecedented emergency attempt in the history of humanity for fear of the virus’s penetration and elimination of the human race. This fear of Covid-19 suddenly returned man to his normal size as a very weak creature. It also brought to mind the feeling that primitive man felt in the face of life, that is, the feeling of insignificance before the forces of nature and beyond.

The Holy Bible continues to teach us lessons after lessons about not being deceived by the manifestations of human power, and trying to rely completely on them, and even bragging about them. The story of the Tower of Babel in the Bible is nothing but a reminder from God to man of his weakness and lack of help. The depth of the story lies in its wonderful symbolism that applies to all people, individually and collectively, in that the tower is a symbol of proving invincibility and strength and also showing off the ability to ascend to heaven by relying on human strength. In other words, it is a symbol of forgetting human weakness and challenging the Creator worthy of all glory and power. The result is that God Almighty looked down from His height, mocking man’s arrogance, and with one stroke, He aborted his pride and dispersed his reunification on earth:

At one time all the people of the world spoke the same language and used the same words. As the people migrated to the east, they found a plain in the land of Babylonia and settled there.

They began saying to each other, “Let’s make bricks and harden them with fire.” (In this region bricks were used instead of stone, and tar was used for mortar.) Then they said, “Come, let’s build a great city for ourselves with a tower that reaches into the sky. This will make us famous and keep us from being scattered all over the world.”

But the Lord came down to look at the city and the tower the people were building. “Look!” he said. “The people are united, and they all speak the same language. After this, nothing they set out to do will be impossible for them! Come, let’s go down and confuse the people with different languages. Then they won’t be able to understand each other.”

In that way, the Lord scattered them all over the world, and they stopped building the city. That is why the city was called Babel,[b] because that is where the Lord confused the people with different languages. In this way he scattered them all over the world. (Genesis 11:1-9)

We also have a great example in our Lord Jesus Christ about Satan’s attempt to seduce man by relying on human power and flaunting it. He tried in many ways to divert the attention of our Lord Jesus from the message that he brought to the world, by drawing his attention to the brilliance of political power represented by the kingdoms of the world that were given to him in order to tempt him with it, but his effort failed, as we read in the Gospel of Matthew:

Then the devil took him to the holy city, Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off! For the Scriptures say,

‘He will order his angels to protect you.
And they will hold you up with their hands
so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’”

Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’”

Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”

“Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say,

You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”

Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus (Matthew 4:5-11)

The lesson here is that all power belongs to God. When we place God with the power of His will and His majesty before our eyes, whenever a manifestation of human power comes to our mind or appears to us, and we remind ourselves of His greatness, instead of being drawn into glorifying what is fleeting, God Almighty will grant us His blessings and strength, which is true power. Our strength is in God Almighty through our master Jesus Christ, who challenged the power of the world and the power of death. From God Almighty and through His Christ, who purchased us with His blood, we derive help and steadfastness in moments of weakness, fear, injustice, and illness. The best conclusion is the words of the psalmist:

Some nations boast of their chariots and horses,
but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.
Those nations will fall down and collapse,
but we will rise up and stand firm.

Give victory to our king, O Lord!
Answer our cry for help. (Psalm 20:7-9)
